I was at Veterans Park Beach, MA that day. I heard some noise that are dropping on the deck repeatedly. I was sure where did those dropping sound came from and who made those sound. I saw few Ring Billed seagulls were flying up and down from far. I haven't seen those behavior and find them very strange.
After observing them doing that for awhile, I just realized that the dropping sound was made by them. They dropped the sea snail when they flew up and picked it up and dropped it again. They repeated this action many times. I believe they were trying to break the shell by dropping them. Once the shell is chipped or broken, they could pull out the snail from their shells to eat. Very creative and clever way to get their food.
