Irish-named players Joe Cafferty and Eric Murphy played a starring role in the Örebro Black Knights run to the Swedish American Football Championship game in 2015. There linebacker Eric Murphy intercepted Carlstad Crusaders' Quarterback A Hermandsson's pass in the second quarter, setting up Kicker Joe Cafferty's Field Goal which put the Black Knights 10-7 up.
It was to be the highpoint for the Örebro team, however, as Carlstad Crusaders scored five touchdown's in a row before the Black Knights added a late consolation Touchdown to leave the score 42-17 at the final whistle to Carlstad Crusaders, who won their sixth Swedish title in a row, and would go on to win the Champions League Final versus Serbia's Vukovi Belgrade later in the season [see References 2-3]. The Game was the Crusaders 13th SM-Final appearance in 14 years as the dominant team in Swedish American Football showed no signs of letting up.
The League was reduced by two teams for 2016 after some big mis-matches involving the games between teams in the top and bottom half of the standings, with Kristianstad Predators and Västerås Roedeers made the drop to Division 1.
