IO CAPITANO

Filming begins on the new film by

MATTEO GARRONE

Principal photography recently began in Dakar, Senegal, on IO CAPITANO, the new film by MATTEO GARRONE (Gomorra, Dogman, Pinocchio), an international Italian/Belgian coproduction, produced by Archimede with Rai Cinema, in coproduction with Tarantula Film and the participation of Pathé. World sales will be handled by Pathé International.

IO CAPITANO is an epic tale that follows the hazardous journey of two young men (newcomers Seydou Sarr and Moustapha Fall), who leave Dakar for Europe. A contemporary odyssey through the dangers of the desert, the perils of the sea and the ambiguities of the human soul.

Written by Matteo Garrone, Massimo Gaudioso, Massimo Ceccherini and Andrea Tagliaferri, the film is based on an original idea by Garrone who took his inspiration from the true stories of Kouassi Pli Adama Mamadou, Arnaud Zohin, Amara Fofana, Brhane Tareke and Siaka Doumbia, all of them young people who made the journey undertaken by the film's two characters.

In addition to Senegal, filming will also take place in Morocco and Italy, for a total of 13 weeks.
