Here are some notable nuggets that happened during Mets' spring training action on Friday:
Attention grabber
Travis Jankowski, a 30-year-old outfielder making a bid to make the team as a reserve glove, made his case a bit stronger by robbing St. Louis' Alec Bulerson in the first inning. Jankowski sprinted in and to his right and dove, backhanding the catch.
Take one on the shin
Alex Claudio, a lefty competing for an Opening Day bullpen spot, was drilled in the shin on a comebacker from St. Louis' Brendan Donovan. The 30-year-old took a couple warmup pitches and remained in the game, throwing his fifth scoreless inning of the Grapefruit League.
Caught my eye
Matt O'Neill, a 24-year-old minor league catcher from Morristown, got called up for the game and pinch-hit a double to right field in his first Grapefruit League at-bat.
Saturday's schedule
The Mets have off but will play an intrasquad game. Max Scherzer is expected to throw seven innings in his final tune-up.
