Brainwave of brainwaves. Modern solution for a modern problem. After all, vast swathes of the population have made their views clear as mud for ages past: they love refugees (well, tolerate the fact that they exist and have a general need for safety) but would rather they end up somewhere else, and abhor the idea that illegal migrants are sneaking past all those important mechanisms designed to keep the general public safe from their nasty grasping ways.
In direct response to the 'legitimate concerns' of certain voters, the immigration rules have been designed accordingly. All those dinghy journeys that certain folk on the right are so concerned about (it appears that Farage has a newish hobby of bobbing around the channel pointing and sneering at people who've no other choices but to brave the waters. You'd think they'd go for all those legal routes the right keep going on about so much. Almost as if said routes have been sealed tighter than a gnat's chuff and driven desperate people to all the more desperate ends) are the result.
More than that, the visa processing system here isn't built for mass use. Sinking time and funds into it might make it easier for less worthy refugees to come through in future and the Tories just can't be having that. The current welcoming attitude to Ukrainians won't extend to the rest of those fleeing persecution or bombs, don't be silly.
But a glorious, shining example presented itself. Even better than using Rwanda as a deterrent (even though they're having to walk a fine line by saying that those sent there will have a lovely time with all sorts of human rights. It's a deterrent but one that's basically a free holiday, honest). Send the Ukrainians to somewhere familiar, almost home-like. Like a big jigsaw puzzle, just pop the Ukrainian refugees somewhere else within their own borders. Job's a good un.
