The submariners differ from the other naval trades due to the mental strength to withstand long periods underseas. In an interview with Frontier India, Cmde Arun Kumar (retd.), a veteran submariner who served on India's first nuclear submarine INS Chakra (Chakra 1), Foxtrot submarines, Sishumar submarines and Kilo submarines; and was the Principal Director Submarine Acquisition (PDSMAQ) at the NHQ during the acquisition of Scorpene submarine, spoke about the selection and training of submariners in the Indian Navy.
