I had some errands to run this morning and if I'm honest, I was glad to get out of the House.
The Electrician was working in the Kitchen and it was absolutely chaos.
Not necessarily his fault but he was supposed to finish yesterday but hit a snag.
It seems during First Fix they put a junction box under the floor and now some thing had come loose so the hob and oven wouldn't work.
The only solution was to cut a hole in my new floor to access the offending box and make a repair.
This was pretty drastic stuff as i had laid two layers of 6mm ply over the whole of the floor and fixed it down with a nail gun stapled ever 4 inches in each direction. So it was going to be a mammoth task especially as he couldnt remember quite where the junction box was.
So bright and early this morning i was up and cutting a hole in my floor at a point where we hoped he would be able to gain access.
We struck lucky and with a bit of cursing he was able to reach under the floor and replace the connection with some thing more robust.
A lesson learnt?
He was here all day Tuesday and I couldn't get on with my jobs so I took the opportunity to get out in the garden for a few hours. It was great to be out in the fresh air, but it gave me an appetite which couldn't be slated as we had no means of cooking a meal.
In the end I had Ham sandwiches. No wonder I'm losing weight.
Wednesday morning I had to go and get my car which was still in the garage, then I wanted to see if i could buy a guide rail for my circular saw so i stopped at Original Fixings Limited where i hoped they would be able to order a suitable item.
Sadly they couldn't and the Mikita `plunge saw and guide they had available was over £500.
Georgia had asked me if i would look after the Baby whilst she went to the beauticians, they have their firms 'Do' Saturday night ( It seems the only employees not invited are me and Jaki) so she needed to look her best. I was supposed to be at her house by 1330 hrs but I was an hour early.
So i decided to go get some lunch.
Now i was only a few yards from Mrs G's Cafe, one of my favourites, but I was a bit reluctant to have another fry up, so instead I decided to find a Kentucky fried Chicken and get a few pieces of finger licking loveliness.
This is low carb and delicious .
But I dint know where the KFC was, so I Googled it and followed the sat nav which took me through Yate, out the other side, down to Cranleigh court road where we turned right.
It then got me to do a loop of the estate before bringing me back to Yate centre where it then sent me behind Morrisons and into Yate Town council offices.
It then said 'Bollocks" and shut up.
I realised my quest for finger-licking loveliness was doomed so headed back toward Georgias house.
However, as i went from Yate to Sodbury I saw a sign for Cup Cake Fashion tea room and on impulse i drove in.
Georgia had been there before and thought I might like it.
She suggested it was a 'Greasy spoon Cake shop' but then she is Posh.
I had seen it on line in the past but never actually visited so it was some thing new.
I parked at the rear of the building where Georgia and I took a Water Colour painting course some years ago. We had to convince them she was suitable to attend as she was about 11 and everyone else was in their 80's.
Once they saw the standard of her painting they didn't have a leg to stand on. She was ten times as good as these old ladies who really only went for the company.
The venue looked interesting tucked between two other buildings it was obviously outdoor space at one time, but now it was covered over and made an interesting, if slightly chilly venue
It looked very pretty as i approached with tubs of brightly coloured flowers juxtaposition with Christmas decorations and i was pleasantly surprised when i went inside.
It was bigger than i had imagined though the counter and kitchen where the food was produced was quite small and the 4 ladies working behind the counter had to be rather nimble on their feet.
One lady seemed to be making fresh cakes whilst others were preparing salads and cooking various items for the menu.
The whole venue had a very Christmassy feel with trimmings and Christmas trees dotted about the place, bright red Poinsettias in pots around the door and some colourful table decorations.
Even the food had a Christmas feel.
Not only did they they have plenty of fresh cakes but they also offer Turkey and Cranberry Baps which sounded great.
I had a good look at the menu which sadly didnt feature a full English breakfast so this place wont be on the agenda for the Fat Boys any time soon but it had plenty of other offerings.
I was tempted with the soup of the day but it came with a bread roll and I knew I would weaken. So instead i went for 'Karens special Omelette' £7.50 with a choice of two fillings or you could have the lot for £9.25.
When it arrived it looked good. The omelette was nicely cooked and it was big. Packed full of melted cheese and tasty Ham it hit the spot a treat. The accompanying Salad was fresh and crisp with a good helping of cole slaw on the side.
There were sachets of salad cream and ketchup on the table (boo) as well as Salt and Pepper in pots. (Hurrah).
I ordered a pot of Tea which came in a lovely pot with pretty little cups and saucers. It allowed me to have three cups of tea.
The down side was that the venue was a bit cold and it would need a really robust heating system to keep it warm. That said, it wasn't freezing but the flag stone floor seemed to suck the heat out through the soles of my feet. It was enough to make my cup of tea get cold very quickly.
Service was casual but friendly with lots of "love" and "Pet" being used.
They clearly have regular customers as several groups came in and spoke to staff on first name terms, some had tables reserved and I got the feeling they sat in the same place each time.
I rather enjoyed my visit.
It was refreshingly jolly and The Jazz music playing in the background was a welcome change to Slade and Jingle Bells.
When i left i got caught by two of the staff who spotted me taking pictures and asked me what I thought of my meal.
I was happy to tell them I really enjoyed it and that I would come back again.
Well worth a visit.
