 | Caroline Turner Nov 1 | A senior official of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights was being investigated by the High Commissioner regarding a complaint about his biased anti-Israel Tweets just before he stepped down, UKLFI can reveal. 
Craig Mokhiber, the Director of the New York office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights is reported to be leaving the UN, soon after UKLFI was notified that the investigation about his biased outpourings had been stepped up. UKLFI had pointed out that Mokhiber's virulently anti-Israel tweets breached the UN Guidelines for social media and the Standards of Conduct for International civil servants. UKLFI's attention was drawn to these Tweets by the online investigator, GnasherJew, and by the NGO, UNWatch. Six months later, on 13 October 2023, UKLFI was informed that the investigation had been passed to the High Commissioner for Human Rights to be addressed. UKLFI received an email saying "The Investigations Division of the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) has reviewed your report dated 16 March 2023. Kindly note that OIOS management has determined that this matter would be best addressed by the High Commissioner, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), copying the persons responsible for monitoring conduct complaints within the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC)." The Tweets that UKLFI had complained of consistently accused Israel of committing genocide, over the decades. It is significant that Mr Mokhiber's parting letter once again accused Israel of genocide and argued that his solution for the region was a singe secular state for all religions – thus obliterating Israel as a Jewish State. He wrote "We must support the establishment of a single, democratic secular state in all of historic Palestine, with equal rights for Christians, Muslims, and Jews," "and, therefore, the dismantling of the deeply racist, settler-colonial project and an end to apartheid across the land." Caroline Turner, director of UKLFI commented: "We would not be surprised if Mokhiber decided to step down rather than curb his apparently unstoppable hatred of Israel. It's a very good outcome if Mokhiber has left the UN, since he could not act impartially, as he was required to do, when he was so evidently biased against Israel." | | | |
