| Caroline Turner Dec 2 | Several people have asked how to complain about a BBC programme or website article. Here is a brief summary: -
Complain using the contact details or web form here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/contact/complaints (stage 1A). This must be done within 30 working days of broadcast or publication on the BBC website. If using the web form remember to click on the security email sent to you by the BBC after you complete the form. -
If dissatisfied with the response, complain again, using the contact details or web form at the web page above, rebutting any points made in the BBC's response and including the reference number received for the original complaint (stage 1B). This must be done within 20 working days of the stage 1A response. Again, remember to click on the security email sent by the BBC after you complete the web form. -
If the complaint is rejected again, use the link to appeal to the Editorial Complaints Unit (ECU) (stage 2). Take care since the link only works once. Explain why the rejection of the complaint was wrong. If the website does not accept the submission, email ecu@bbc.co.uk. This must be done within 20 working days of the stage 1B response. -

If the BBC does not respond within its own time limits for its responses, it may be possible to refer the complaint immediately to Ofcom. The time limits for the BBC's responses are 10 working days for the stage 1A response, 20 working days for the stage 1B response, and 35 working days for the stage 2 response. Ofcom is monitoring numbers, so it may help to complain even the complaint is rejected.
