Students at Silver Creek in a Classroom Taken by: Alflred Ortiz

SAN JOSE, CALIF.--- On March 7, 2024, Biden gave his address about the state of the Union.

The State of the Union is an annual message given by the president of the United States of America. Biden addressed various problems around the world related to the U.S. and the state of the U.S. economy. He begins by addressing the topic of the current ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. He states his beliefs that the U.S. should aid Ukraine in their fight against Russia saying "We stand with Ukraine.'' After addressing problems regarding conflicts he begins to talk about his plans for public education. Biden said he wants children to start school at a younger age. They would go through preschool making it mandatory instead of an option. He stated that this would be a good idea because adolescents who begin school earlier have a much higher chance of graduating from a higher education. If this change were to be implemented by federal law, all states across the country would have to mandate kids to start school at a preschool level. This would affect school districts such as the Evergreen School District. More schools dedicated to teaching preschool would have to be built nationwide, costing the taxpayers money. This may also lessen the funding given to other schools in the country.

Biden talks about funding to college students and talks about the current state of the economy saying how it's stronger than it has ever been in U.S history. He wants to allocate more funding towards paying off student loans and public education. This would affect the amount of funding for students from districts such as the East Side Union School District. When talking to Ryan Nguyen a senior at Silver Creek High School who applied for student aid he said, "More government funding for my education would allow me to worry less about college and the financial aspect of it."
