Curtain Raiser - 33rd Olympics Paris 2024
Bids for 2024 & 2028 - In the initial bids for 2024 Summer Olympics six candidate cities were left- Paris , Hamburg, Boston, Budapest and Rome. Boston beat Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington DC for the US Bid, but in Jul 2017 USOC and Boston mutually agreed to terminate Boston's Bid.
On 29 Nov 2015 Hamburg withdrew its bid. Rome withdrew on 21st Sep 2016 , Budapest withdrew on 22 Feb 2017. The withdrawls were due to various reasons. The extraordinary session met at Lausanne to approve the selection of host cities of 2024 and 2028 at the same time. On 31st Jul 2017 IOC announced Los Angeles as the sole candidate for 2028 Olympics enabling Paris to be confirmed as host for 2024 Olympics.
Paris was elected as host city on 13th Sep 2017 at the 131st IOC session in Lima, Peru.
The XXXIII Olympics called Paris 2024 will be held from 24th July to 11 Aug 2024. Paris will be the main host city with 16 other cities in Metropolitan France and Tahiti (French Polynesia).
Paris will be hosting the Summer Olympics for the third time having hosted earlier in 1900 and 1924. It will be the second city after London to host the Olympics thrice. It will also mark Centenary of PARIS1924. It will also mark the Final Olympics under IOC President Thomas Bach.
Paris 1924 Olympics
This will be France's sixth Olympics (three summer & three Winter). Breakdancing will debut at Paris 2024. There will be same number of Men and Women participants. There will be 329 events held in 32 Sports with approx 10,500 athletes.
