At Watches & Wonders 2024, Hermès unveiled a white-gold encased reinterpretation of the Arceau, an equestrian-inspired timepiece first introduced in 1978. The event marked a significant moment for the French Maison, showcasing its evolution into a prominent watch brand. This new version of the Arceau, known as the Arceau Chorus Stellarum is a blend of traditional craftsmanship and whimsical design, centred around an equestrian theme.
Enclosed in a 41mm case of 750 white gold, the dial of each Arceau Chorus Stellarum watch features an elaborate display of champlevé, lacquer, and miniature painted stars, complemented by a dynamic 2N yellow gold horse applique that animates at the push of a button.
This horological marvel is driven by the Hermès Manufacture movement H1837, a mechanical self-winding calibre known for its Swiss precision. It offers an approximate 50-hour power reserve and a balance frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Some models are further embellished with 70 diamonds totalling 1.05 carats, enhancing their stellar motif.
The expertise of Hermès's artisans is evident in every aspect of the watch's construction. Master engravers carefully carve the gold dial to create depth and texture, while miniature painters apply layers of paint to bring the intricate designs to life with exceptional vibrancy. Each dial, thus, tells its own unique story, capturing the essence of meticulous attention to detail.
Completing the aesthetic, the watch is fitted with either an abyss blue or pearl grey alligator leather strap, secured with a 750 white gold pin buckle. These limited and numbered pieces are available in a series of just six models and can be purchased in a white gold case set with diamonds or without.
