*URA FC 3-0 Kitara
*SC Villa 1-0 Express

In a historic moment, Joseph Ssemujju scored the first goal at the newly redeveloped Nakivubo Stadium as URA FC triumphed 3-0 over Kitara in the first of two test matches held for the stadium's grand opening on Saturday.

The match began with a burst of energy as Shariph Kimbowa recycled a long ball from Eric Ssenjobe back into play, allowing Ssemujju to bundle in a shot that eluded the Kitara goalkeeper within the first minute.

This early goal set the tone for the match, with URA FC displaying dominance thanks to Ivan Ahimbisibwe's subsequent brace, leaving the recently crowned Uganda Cup winners stunned.

Ahimbisibwe's first goal came in the 20th minute following a neat control and turn from Kimbowa, who then found Ahimbisibwe, allowing him to squeeze the ball into the net.

Ahimbisibwe secured his second goal just two minutes into the second half, capitalizing on a rebound after Ssemujju's initial shot hit the post.

This commanding victory marked a successful debut for URA under their new coach, Alex Isabirye, who took charge after the end of the previous season.

Kitara, despite their recent success in the Uganda Cup were they beat NEC 1-0 to win the title at Wankulukuku, struggled to make an impact and were outplayed throughout the match.

Both URA FC and SC Villa, who defeated Express in the main match, received prize money of Sh15 million each as part of the grand opening celebrations.

The event not only highlighted the competitive spirit of Ugandan football but also celebrated the rebirth of Nakivubo Stadium, that was earlier demolished in 2017 before being refurbished by businessman Ham Kiggundu, as a premier venue for sports and entertainment in the region.
