It was an Olympus film camera (perhaps setting me up to be brand loyal to Olympus decades later) and a luxurious unexpected gift. I can safely say that I started dabbling with photography from that time though it was only in 2011 when I attended a bunch of workshops that I managed to get a better grasp of the technical fundamentals of photography. Sunlight through the clouds in black and white and colour But with how smart phones have evolved, carrying bulky photography gear seems more and more like a burden (especially when you're moving through an Indian airport and they insist you pull every little lens and charger cable out of the camera bag for scanning). I mean take all the photos in this post for example, all were shot on my Samsung phone and they all look great (though the phone does oversaturate photos on some occasions). The phone does have its limits though for specialised photography like macro.
