Kampala Rockets secured a crucial victory against the JT Jaguars, narrowly winning 59-56 on Sunday at the YMCA Court in Wandegeya.
This win keeps their hopes of avoiding relegation in the National Basketball League alive.
The Rockets started strong, taking a 17-9 lead after the first quarter. However, the Jaguars mounted a significant comeback with a 12-0 run, at one point leading by three points.
Despite this pressure, Bernis Ankunda's Rockets, who had only three players on the bench, showed resilience and maintained their lead in the final minutes.
Former Oilers guard Luak Ruai was instrumental in the Rockets' victory, achieving a triple-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists.
Ola Simon and Pauti Ozias Kikomba also made significant contributions, scoring 19 and 15 points respectively.
On the Jaguars' side, Aaron John Eboyu (16 points), Ian Lubwama (15 points), and George Agassi (14 points) all scored in double digits, but their efforts were not enough to secure a win for coach Sudi Ulanga's team.
This victory marks the Rockets' seventh win of the season out of 19 games, bouncing back from their previous 58-64 loss to Our Saviour.
With three games remaining against title contenders KIU Titans, City Oilers, and Nam Blazers, the Rockets face a challenging path to secure their league status.
Despite the win, the Rockets' position remains precarious. While they can no-longer be overtaken by rock-bottom Ndejje Angels, who have only three wins with three games left, they are still entangled in a relegation battle.
JKL Dolphins, Livingstone, and Power, all with six wins each, are also fighting to avoid dropping out of the league.
