Bombo-based Uganda Premier League outfit UPDF FC is set to elevate two standout players from their sister club, Young Simba FC, which competes in the Buganda Regional League.
Defensive midfielder and defender Ssekulima Jim Derrick and dynamic midfielder Mugisha Frank are in contention for top-flight football next season.
The two players were instrumental for Young Simba, guiding the club to an eighth-place finish in the third division.
Ssekulima, a lanky defensive shield, would be a bargain addition to UPDF FC, bringing with him vast experience from his time with Kirinya Jinja SS in the Uganda Premier League a few seasons ago.
Mugisha, despite his youth, has been on the radar for some time, frequently training with the UPDF FC senior team during their Big League days. He is considered a special talent who could thrive with guidance from more experienced players.
Both Ssekulima and Mugisha played crucial roles for Young Simba FC in the 2022/2023 season, helping the team reach the Buganda Regional League playoffs final, where they narrowly lost 1-0 to Kiyinda Boys.
With their impressive performances and potential for growth, Ssekulima and Mugisha's elevation to UPDF FC is expected to strengthen the squad as they prepare for the upcoming season.
