Caesar Okhuti has for the past few years established himself as one of Ugandan football's best goal scorers, and the current Onduparaka coach-player is set to make his final appearance in a competitive game for the Arua-based club.
"Veteran and Legendary forward Samson Ceasar Okhuti will call it quits from active playing after tomorrow's game with Calvary," the club confirmed.
Okhuti revealed to his teammates on Saturday at the Greenlight Stadium, during the team's last training session ahead of their last game of the 2023/24 season that he wouldn't be playing competitively anymore after the Sunday match.
"He has always been part and history of this club through his playing career and we take pride in being the club where he reaches the climax of his playing career," the club said about Okhuti.
Okhuti is a cult hero in Arua, and a very much respected football figure nationally, known for his hard work coupled with determination and discipline.
Okhuti was part of that famed Onduparaka squad that historically earned Uganda Premier League (UPL) promotion in 2016, alongside Muhammad Shaban, Rashid Tiha and others.
Okhuti played for a number of local community clubs in Westnile before finally making a very big name for himself with Ediofe Hills in the top flight.
He went on to play for Express, and is a two-times UPL champion, having won the league title with Bunamwaya in 2010 and KCCA in 2016.
The legendary striker had initially retired after captaining Arua Hill to their first ever Big League title, and promotion to the top flight which they achieved unbeaten in 2021.
In October 2023, Okhuti, still fresh and energetic, then working in the capacity of head coach at Onduparaka came out of retirement in a desperate move to try and directly help the club return to the top division.
Sitting 6th on the 15-team table, with 41 points from 26 games and just one left to end the season, it has already statistically been confirmed that Onduparaka will not qualify to the UPL, but Okhuti just added another page of great history in his Onduparaka archive.
Of the Caterpillars' 34 goals in the league so far, the veteran striker alone has scored nine - the most by one player for the club this season.
Okhuti reached the decision to retire so he can fully concentrate on his managerial and coaching career in football.
