National Council of Sports Deputy General Secretary, David Katende, issued a cautionary note to student athletes during a luncheon organized by the Uganda Secondary School Sports Association (USSSA) at the Imperial Hotel in Kampala.
The event celebrated the five schools that represented Uganda in international sports competitions in China and Zanzibar.
Katende commented: "To the students, use your time in school to reach the best version of yourself."
He also warned against the formation of exclusive sports clubs within schools, noting, "You find a school and students refer to some students as 'ballers.' Are ballers not students?"
"Always stay in class and have focus on your books as well."
The luncheon honored the five schools including Kawempe Muslim SS (girls) and St. Mary's Boarding School Kitende (boys), who represented Uganda at the CAF Schools Football Championship in Zanzibar.
Amus College School (boys and girls), Bukedea Comprehensive School, and St. Mary's College Kisubi competed at the International Schools Federation Football World Cup in Dalian, China.
Uganda's athletes achieved commendable success, securing three medals: Amus College School won silver in Dalian, while Bukedea Comprehensive School and Kawempe Muslim SS each brought home bronze medals.
