Defending Champion and Uganda's Peruth Chemutai secured her place in the Women's 3000m Steeplechase final at the ongoing Paris Olympics with a commanding performance in Heat One on Sunday.
Chemutai clocked a time of 9:10.51, the fastest across the three heats, ensuring her advancement to the final scheduled for Tuesday.
Joining Chemutai in the final are the top five athletes from each of the three heats.
World Champion Winfred Yavi (Bahrain) claimed victory in Heat Two with a time of 9:15.11, while World Record Holder Beatrice Chepkoech (Kenya) won Heat Three in 9:13.56.
Chemutai's performance in Paris builds on her impressive track record, having won gold at the Tokyo Olympics with a national record time of 9:01.45, making her the first Ugandan woman to win an Olympic gold medal.
Despite missing the podium at the World Championships in Oregon and Budapest, Chemutai's recent achievements, including a win at the Diamond League meeting in Eugene, where she competed against Chepkoech and Yavi, provide a strong foundation for her upcoming race.
Additionally, her silver medal at the African Games in March and her podium finishes in Xiamen and Suzhou underscore her consistent form this season.
